Mindblowing
One of my favourite all time films. I had this on DVD, but decided to go for the blu ray as I had a few quid left over from payday. I donât know how they did it, but the blu ray picture is amazing. Nice and sharp, and the colours really pop. Looks like a modern film in terms of picture quality. Also, the sound blew me away, it’s epic. Speech is more clear, and the 5.1 surround is massive and crystal clear. You can hear much more background effects that I didnât even notice on the DVD version. They done such a good job on remastering this, it’s incredible. It’s like watching it for the first time all over again! And the film was made just after WW2!!!??In terms of the story, we all know it by now. but it’s the closest to the book than the other films (I donât know why the Tom Cruise version is even called War of the Worlds, it’s nothing like the book) It’s like it’s told from a different perspective and in a different time period; from a military and scientist’s point of view rather than a ‘narrator’ or journalist, and 1950’s (I assume) America rather than Victorian England. There are some really cool extras too.Fast delivery, a little bit on the expensive side for a blu ray but I guess it’s an import (works fine on my UK player) and it’s pretty rare, but still worth every penny. Money well spent, no Buyer’s Remorse from me!Bloody brilliant seller too. 6 stars!

Great story from HG Wells. The film is well told with great special effects and fantastic sounds from the Alien death rays

A digital visual and audio restoration of a 1953 classic that it deserves
This WOTW blueray is a digital restoration from the films negative of this classic 1953 adaptation (set in 1950âs America not Victorian England). The special effects are worth a mention considering the film is nearly 70 years old (there were no computers used), obviously it canât compete with modern films in that regard but as a sci-fi spectacle I think it holds up very well. The disk includes some special features such as a making video including interviews with the cast. The picture quality has been cleared up considerably and looks vibrant and sharp as if made yesterday. I used to think the Martian machines were flying, but now I can clearly see in the closeup shots that they were held to the ground by magnetic âtripodâ legs, this is mentioned in the film but I never found them easy to see before the restoration. The sound track has been refreshed remixed and incredibly contains a 5.1 sound mix which works really well with this film.In regards to the film, this 1953 adaptation is different to the book in a few ways one of the most obvious is that it is set in America in the 1950âs and not Victorian England, its best to look at the making of video to get a better idea to why it was made as it was as technical constraints and budgets played a big part in what they could do.Itâs hard to believe this film is getting close to being 70 years old now, even when I saw it as a child it was 25 years old then and I absolutely loved it and still do.

i feel utterly deceived
As i wanted to upgrade these 2 films, from dvd to blu ray, i bought this set. Unfortunately, they have never had a uk blu ray release, i saw 4k and blu ray on the cover. Any other release with this would give both films in both formats. Not here, one on 4k and one on blu ray.i do not want to upgrade again to an overrated overpriced format.Where is the blu ray for war of the worlds????????????Both films would have fit on both discs.i jusr paid 30 quid and can only play one film.

Good but cheap
updated story for war of the worlds 2021 has grate potential However suffers due to low budget. There is also a very odd seine which they find a passenger plane in the middle of the forest just sitting there and do not seem to find it odd, Whats that all about.?Film must have been made in a hurry as it suffers from poor direction How are the cast getting about quickly it leaves you thinking that who ever put the film together must have done it i their sleep however the idea behind it was very good. This potentially could have been an excellent film. Must have been put together by monkeys. Nothing has ever topped the 1953 Gorge pal movie. Over all Very disappointing
